The PMC-Encoder-DAC is a general purpose I/O resource for motion control applications.  The functions of A-quad-B encoder tracking counters,  with DAC analog outputs, plus multiple digital I/O and onboard timers, can be used to implement custom motor or robotic control.  The quadrature decoder inputs typically measure linear or shaft rotation position,  the analog outputs adjust the controlling motor velocity.  The six quadrature decoders take differential RS-422/485 inputs and increment or decrement 16 bit counters with overflow interrupts.  The 6 DACs are available in either 12-bit or 16-bit resolution with voltage outputs in either +10V or +5V ranges. Secondary functions include the interval timer and watchdog timer. The interval timer regulates the process sampling time either by polling or interrupt, the watchdog timer provides a security against PC CPU failure.  All user I/O is optically isolated from the PCI interface.
 

Power for the DAC's, DAC output amps, encoder differential receivers, and digital I/O,  is provided by the user.  The absence of this user supplied power is remotely sensed by the PCI interface. At powerup and until programmed by the CPU, the DACs are set to zero volts. 
All interrupts are maskable and power up in the masked state.  Registers and commands on the board are accessed via I/O or memory space over the PCI bus. 
All I/O is via an 80-pin front panel connector for easy cable attachment.
