Description

[Product Image]

The ISA-Encoder-DAC is a low cost general purpose I/O resource for applications requiring motion control. The primary functions of quadrature decoder inputs, index pulse inputs, and analog outputs, can be used to implement custom motor or robotics control. The quadrature decoder inputs are typically used to measure linear or shaft rotation position and velocity. The index inputs typically signal a limit position or synchronization location, and the analog outputs set the power setting on a motor. Secondary functions include an interval timer, a watchdog timer, an external trigger input, and 64 digital I/O channel programmable, in four banks of 16, as either inputs or outputs. The interval timer allows preprogrammed CPU wakeup, the watchdog timer provides a security against PC CPU failure and the external trigger allows for an interrupt from an equipment event.

The eight quadrature decoders take a differential input and increment or decrement 16 bit timers with overflow interrupts. Index inputs are also differential and can interrupt on either rising or falling edge. The 8 DACs have 12 bit accurate voltage outputs in either +10V or +5V ranges.

At power up and until programmed by the CPU, the 64 digital I/O channels are tristate, and the DACs are set to zero volts. All interrupts are maskable and power up in the masked state. Registers and commands on the board are accessed via I/O space over the ISA bus. A 64 byte address range is required.

All non-digital I/O signals leave the board through the angle bracket via a 100 pin RFI/EMI shielded, SCSI type connector for easy cable attachment.

The digital I/O are on two 50 pin shrouded headers. An optional cable assembly with angle bracket can bring them out to an adjacent slot.
