Vigilant's ValuePack A2D High Density I/O modules are a low cost approach to add just the right amount of analog input channels to an I/O subsystem
built around Vigilant's SlotSaver® multifunction I/O coprocessor boards or any IndustryPack carrier board. The A2D module inputs 16 single-ended analog signals, all in a single wide IndustryPack formfactor. Use of the 16 channel
module provides for a maximum of 64 analog input channels on a single SlotSaver® board. The conversion has an accuracy of 12 bits or 0.025% with an accuracy of 3/4 of a bit of resolution. If gain and offset calibration is needed,
two input lines may be jumped to ground and the 5 volt reference. During initialization these may be read and stored on the carrier board for use during run-time when an adjustment can be made in the software driver. This feature
is ideal for modules installed on intelligent carrier boards, such as Vigilant's SlotSaver boards, where the I/O coprocessor can apply the gain and offset adjustment prior to delivering the conversion values. The converter
performs a conversion sequence without processor intervention sampling sixteen channels specified in the sequencer. The sequencing of the channel selection is made during initialization when 16 channel numbers are written into RAM
storage. Channel numbers are then read from this sequence; for example, if all 16 channels are desired, then sequence RAM is set to channel 1, 2, ... through 16. If only channel one is desired then the RAM is set to 1, 1, 1, ...,
1. Conversion cycles may be set to continuous mode when once started, continues until stopped. The start of a conversion cycle can be externally triggered or host commanded. Each channel's digital conversion value is placed in a
FIFO buffer that can be accessed by the SlotSaver's CPU. Up to 1K samples of data may be buffered. A maskable interrupt mat be sent to the SlotSaver board when the buffer is not empty or half full. The 50 pin I/O connector
includes the sixteen analog input channels each separated by ground pin permitting the use of grounded and shielded cabling for maximum noise protection, a 5 volt reference, and an external trigger signal. The multi-layered circuit
board includes two layers dedicated to power planes for maximum noise protection. The ID Prom on the board can be used to identify which version of the A2D module is installed and the number of channels available. |
